Save an apple orchard!
Are you alarmed at the destruction of farmlands in many areas of the country? We are too. In some areas of the Pacific Northwest, orchards are being ripped up and houses by the hundreds are built where beautiful and productive orchards once grew. Shererwood Forest Farm is an old golden delicious apple orchard located on the banks of beautiful Lake Chelan, in north central Washington. Each of the grand old trees in the orchard produce about 1,000 pounds of apples a year! This farm is the one of the last viable commercial apple orchard on the shores of Lake Chelan.

We are dedicated to the preservation and conservation of this farm land in the face of a relentless charge of suburban encroachment. Cash-infused developers have attacked the surrounding lands in their headlong pursuit of lavish profit. Agricultural market compensation for farmers is at a serious low point and continues to put farmers out of business.

Just as each tree in Central Park in New York City has special significance relative to the surrounding concrete jungle, so do our orchard trees as urban sprawl engulfs our neighborhood.

Why is this happening? Chelan is rapidly becoming the new Lake Tahoe of the northwest. Real estate has exploded as an investment here, and the result is the urbanizing of the Lake Chelan area. The chainsaws and the excavators are literally just over the hill!

Orchards, which historically made this area economically solid, are being removed at an accelerated rate. Why? Because current crop sales often don’t even cover the orchardists’ expenses. Packing houses and brokers absorb all the profit on the way to major grocery outlets.

We intend to fight to save this family farm, while giving you, our customers, a value-added product you can be proud of!
